Wow, it’s finally Halloween. I don’t say that because I feel like I’ve been waiting for it for so long, I say that (with shock) because I feel like this entire past weekend was Halloween. I feel like it already happened, so quite frankly, I’m over it. Halloween day should only fall on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday because I am sick of this new Hallo-weekend thing that’s been happening. Even though Halloween is on Wednesday of the upcoming week, we celebrate it Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of the week before.
Enough is enough. My liver says no. My bank account cries every time I spend a dollar on something for my halloween costume that I either wear once or don’t even end up wearing. The pumpkins that I forget to carve sit sadly on my front porch. I’m tired of having this awesome costume idea, not being able to execute it right, and then resorting to the most basic costume like a cat or a cop. Yes, if you saw my instagram you know I was a cop, but I was originally planning on being Shaggy from Scooby Doo. Fun and fresh, right???? Yeah I thought it would be, too. When you’re a kid, Halloween ROCKS because you get hella candy, have your costume picked out months in advance, and are in bed by 10 pm knowing the only thing you’ll be nursing the next morning is a sugar hangover. But let’s be honest, the only amazing and worthwhile things about Halloween as an adult are the candy and the movies. There. I said it.
I ran a poll on my Instagram because I thought it would be interesting to see who else agreed with me. Here’s the consensus:
So, obviously people actually do enjoy dressing up for Halloween. However, I will say that I was very surprised with the number of people who don’t. 87 of you said you enjoy it, while 54 said you don’t. That number is higher than I expected!!!! It’s funny because I can see who all votes for what answer, and I know the MAJORITY of you who said you don’t enjoy dressing up, DID indeed dress up for Hallo-weekend. Liars!!!!! Phonies!!!! All of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also asked why people enjoy dressing up, and if they don’t, why not? All in all, people said they enjoyed it because it made them feel like a kid again, it brings out the creativity in everyone, they do it for the photos, and it’s fun to get to be someone else for the night/have a break from the usual social scene! The people who said they don’t enjoy it said things along the lines of, I’m too boring or I’m not creative enough so it’s not fun.
Honestly, it’s the effort for me. I hear you people who love dressing up. I get your reasons. I wish I was one of those people who EATS this shit up and I try to be; but I’m just not. Don’t get me wrong, I’m attending a Halloween party tonight and you bet your spooky ass I’m dressing up, but I’m just going to be the most basic thing ever.
Happy Halloween, friends! I look forward to scrolling through insta tomorrow and seeing how “creative” y’all get. You can look forward to how basic I will be.
